Egypt - Ahmed Al Sayed

Coach of Egypt’s Zamalek football team Augusto Onacio said that he took the responsibility of the team during a critical period of time, saying that the players were not prepared on fitness or mental levels. He added that he was keen to support the players for performing well to ensure their place in the team.

He added, in a statement to “Arabs Today”, that the team has a large number of good players during the current period, saying that the team is on the right way to restore its position in the Egyptian and continental competition. He stressed that the recent wins do not provide evidence that the team reached to its level, as they should resume the positive results during the coming period.

He praised the performance of his team, saying that the players began to restore their confidence during the current period. He stressed that a large number of his players managed to restore their level during the recent matches.

He added, “In each match, the players’ performance notably improves. They restore their confidence gradually.” He said that he turned to substitute the team’s leader Shikabala because of his injury. He expressed his confidence that the team’s striker Manuel Maioka will restore his performance as soon as possible.

He denied what was published over the interference of the club’s board in his work, saying that he is keen to support him. He stressed that he works seriously to meet the expectations of fans and the club’s chairperson during the coming period.

He stressed the need for achieving victories to increase the confidence of the players during the coming period before the match against Ahly. He praised the team’s goalkeeper, saying that he managed to perform well during the tournament.

He stressed his confidence that he will depend on the player during the coming tournaments, including CAF Champions League. He added that he refuses to change the goalkeeper through the season, saying that he always depends on the most ready player, whether during the league, Egyptian Cup or continental tournaments.

He expressed his desire to resume his career with Egypt’s Zamalek team, saying that he is committed to the contract he signed with the team. He revealed that he received two offers since he took the responsibility of the Egyptian football team, while he refused these offers to keep his position with Zamalek during the coming period, saying that he will exert his efforts to meet the aspirations of the team’s fans in all over the Arab world.
