Bangkok - Arabstoday
Just two weeks ago, futsal superstar Falcao starred at the FIFA Futsal World Cup Thailand 2012 and spearheaded Brazil to glory. On Friday, the player met with FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter in the former's homeland. On the eve of the official draw for the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 in Sao Paulo, Falcao joined Renzo Spedicato - president of his club Orlandia/Intelli - for a wide-ranging chat about futsal, the FIFA Confederations Cup, and the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. FIFA.com seized the moment and spoke briefly to the two-time futsal world champion. FIFA.com: Falcao, the three candidates for the FIFA Ballon d'Or were announced yesterday. Who's your favourite? Falcao: Well, I reckon all three of them deserve it. They’re all among the world's best players. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both had fantastic seasons, and I reckon Messi was just a tiny bit better. On a personal note, I'd be delighted if my friend Neymar again won the Puskás prize for the goal of the year. Also on Thursday, Felipe Scolari was unveiled as the new Brazil coach. How would you assess the appointment? Felipão’s record isn't short on success. He led A Seleção to victory at the World Cup in 2002, the last time we won a trophy. Naturally, expectations in Brazil are running immensely high in the build-up to the FIFA World Cup on home soil, but Scolari is respected by the Brazilian people. Appointing him six months before the FIFA Confederations Cup and one and a half years prior to the World Cup doesn't give him much time, but I think he'll put a few things in motion in the time available. He certainly has the trust and support of we Brazilians. What do you think of Brazil's chances of sealing a sixth FIFA World Cup triumph at the tournament two years from now? The pressure on the team will be enormous, and Brazilian expectations will be immense. My fear is, if everything doesn't go perfectly in the early matches, the pressure could become even greater, and could potentially be too great for the team. We'll have to wait and see how the team gets on in front of their home crowds. Neymar is a classy player, but he's maybe not as accustomed to playing under such huge pressure as the guys who feature in the top European leagues. We'll have to wait and see how the team copes with the pressure. FIFA
