Islamabad - KUNA

At least eight Afghan soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb targeting army vehicle in southwestern Afghanistan, said officials on Monday. The army vehicle was struck in the Dilaram district of Farah province, killing at least eight Afghan soldiers, said the Defense Ministry Spokesman General Zahir Azimi. Governor of the bordering Afghan province Nimroz, Mohammad Sarwar Sebat confirmed the death toll, noting that the soldiers were transporting ammunition to Farah from their base in Nimroz when the explosion struck them. He further added that the eight soldiers killed in the attack included three officers. Roadside bombs have been an effective weapon used by Taliban insurgents against the Afghan and foreign troops. The security situation of the country is worsening, as over 50,000 NATO/ISAF troops still in Afghanistan are due to leave by the end of 2014. The local security forces would be taking control of overall security situation of Afghanistan after the foreign troops' withdrawal.
