Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Wednesday met with a visiting delegation of the Friends of Hong Kong Association Ltd., urging the group to contribute more to the region's stability and prosperity. The association was founded in 1989 with the aim to promote exchanges between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and support the lawful governance of the region's government. Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said that Hong Kong had overcome a number of difficulties and maintained stability and prosperity over the past 16 years due to the joint efforts of those in society and the huge support of central government. "Facts have proved that the principles of 'one country, two systems,' 'Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong,' and a high degree of autonomy are thoroughly correct and systematic guarantees for Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability," Yu said. He expressed his hope that the association would continue to unite everyone in Hong Kong to promote the region's harmony and stability as well as its economic development. Yu also urged the association to foster more young and patriotic talents who could make major contributions to the region's long-term prosperity.
