Yemeni Prime Minister Mohammed Basindoh met on Saturday with Russian ambassador Serge Cozolove in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa. During the meeting, they reviewed the relationships between Yemen and Russia and how to best boost aspects of cooperation between the two friendly countries. Basindoh has pled with the Russians to support the Special Fund aimed to prop up the Yemeni economy, and exit it from the current deadly recession. He praised the bilateral relations of his country and Russia, expressing his hope that Russia would support the National Reconciliation Government in meeting its commitments in the transitional period. For his part, Serge Cozolove showed his country's intentions to present urgent relief aid to the domestic refugees in the southern provinces of Aden and Lahj. He said Russia would continue its support for Yemen's stability and security. In a separate meeting, the Premier met with the Djiboutian ambassador Mohammed Dahor. They reviewed aspects of relationships between the two neighborly states and how to best enhance these relations. Basindoh stressed the importance of the historic the relations between Yemen and Djibouti. For his part, Dahor has expressed his content with the positive development in the Yemeni political scene and called on all parties to commit to the GCC drawn power transfer deal, which was signed on November 23 in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, saying it’s the only exit of the political deadlock. Yemen has been shaken to the bone by popular protests calling for an end to the autocratic role of Ali Abdullah Saleh, leaving hundreds killed and thousands injured. Saleh transferred all his executive authorities to VP Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi in line with the GGC brokered deal in exchange for immunity from prosecution.
