
Interior Minister Abdul-Qader Qahtan met here on Tuesday with UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Flavia Pansieri, who is visiting Yemen currently. Qahtan and Pansieri reviewed a number of issues pertaining to human rights, and the possible ways to strengthen mutual cooperation in this area. The Minister said efforts and precautions made by the security services for protecting human rights, pointing that the Ministry's new structure creates new specialized departments concerned in human rights. Pansieri accented the OHCHR's readiness to provide the necessary aid to the Yemeni security services in the humanitarian side, praising the efforts and steps taken by the Interior Ministry in this regard. On the other hand, Qahtan held talks with Deputy Chief of U.S. Mission in Sana'a Karen Sasahara on cooperation relations and security coordination between Yemen and the United States and ways to enhance them, especially in fields of combating terrorism and organized crime. The Interior Minister indicated to the efforts made by the security services to fight terrorism and organized crime, as well as the achieved successes. He praised the assistances provided by the US administration to Yemen in the security field and its permanent support to Yemen. Sasahara stressed her country's continuous support for Yemen in all fields, topped by security, to enhance security and stability in the country.
