
Yemen and the Partners Yemen (PY) organization signed here on Monday an agreement on the community initiative support and build local authority capacities to reduce conflicts. The agreement was signed by Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Omar Abdul-Aziz, Deputy Justice Minister Abdul-Karim Baabad, and PY Deputy Executive Director Abdul-Hakim al-Afiri. Under the agreement, the PY provides support in building capacities of local organizations and key figures in conflict management, mitigating conflict through mediation, arbitration and alternative resolution methods, planning and following-up and managing development projects, and in establishing sustainable structures provide mediation to resolve conflicts. PY opened in early 2009 its main office in the capital city of Sana'a. It aims to promote peace building, culture of change and conflict management in Yemen, and empower ordinary people to participate in decision-making. It targets areas of low Human Development Index (HDI) ranked governorates, where different amenities and facilities have not yet reached and with high dispute rate such as Shabwa, Baydha, Mareb, Jawf, and Ibb.
