Yemen's ruling party is due to announce Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi as its candidate for the presidential election proposed to be held after President Ali Abdullah Saleh resigns, an official said Sunday. "The General People's Congress will soon nominate Vice President Hadi as its candidate to run for early presidential election," government spokesman, Abdual-Janadi, said at a press conference. The proposed election will be carried out if Saleh transfers power under an initiative brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Hadi left Yemen for the United States on Friday for regular medical check, according to the state-run Saba news agency. According to local independent media, the ruling party and the opposition coalition are considering a compromise and an agreed executive mechanism for Saleh's power transfer based on the UN resolution 2014 and the GCC initiative.
