Worst floods in Sudan for quarter century displace 320,000 people

Some 320,000 people during August were affected by the worst widescale floods in Sudan for around a quarter of a century, the World Health Organisation said on Thursday. In turn, some 65,000 families were affected, with the most affected areas around the capital, Khartoum, added a WHO statement. According to estimates, some 73 people have died as a result, the reports mentioned. The floods, as a result of heavy rainfall that has led to the inudation of the River Nile, are expected to continue long into October. Authorities are currently carrying out an evacuation plan of people arouynd the area to around 31 islands.
