International Government Communication Forum
Sharjah - Arab Today

As part of the 5th International Government Communication Forum (IGCF) 2016 being held from March 20-21 at the Expo Centre Sharjah, a modern, world-class and fully equipped media centre was set up at the venue, catering to the needs of local, regional and international media.

The 2-day global media summit that was hosted by the Sharjah Media Centre (SMC), the media arm of the Government of Sharjah and organisers of the IGCF, every year attracted more than 2500 world leaders, senior government figures, international media experts and members of the media and communication industry and has emerged as an influential, must-attend in the region.

As in the past, more than 250 journalists from across the UAE and GCC region and from around the world covered the 2-day forum, held under the slogan ‘Citizens for Prosperity.

Speaking about the IGCF 2016, Ahmed Salim Albairaq, Director of Media Content Department, SMC, said that the SMC team is forever committed to serving the guests and members of media, especially those coming from the GCC and around the world.

As in the past, a large posse of journalists from across the GCC and beyond was invited to cover the Forum and we spared no efforts to attend to their needs and requirements. He pointed out that unlike in the past, the media centre at the IGCF was set up right next to the main conference hall and was readily accessible to everyone along with total transparency.

In addition to providing all communication facilities, the media centre also had a number of translators and interpreters who were present to help with impromptu interviews and interaction with visiting world leaders and dignitaries.

Also, a volunteer group comprising young boys and girls with hearing disabilities and motoring challenges, aged 18 years and above, had been mobilised by SMC in collaboration with the Dubai Club for Disabled and Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped in Sharjah. The group coordinated logistical aspects of the forum including receiving VIP guests and speakers, and responding to participant queries.

Inspired by the vision of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the IGCF, being hosted by Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) from March 20-21 at the Expo Centre Sharjah, had grown from strength to strength, year on year, bringing global recognition to the Emirate and the UAE for their pioneering efforts on the government communication front.
