The WikiLeaks party at a meeting in Melbourne has announced the names of the candidates who will struggle for seats in the Senate in the upcoming parliamentary elections on September 14. The Australian newspaper reported on Thursday that the party founder Julian Assange, commentator and essayist Leslie Cannold, as well as a law expert Binoy Kampmark have been nominated as the Senate candidates from the state of Victoria. Lawyer Kellie Tranter and journalist Alison Broinowski were nominated as candidates from the state of New South Wales, and journalist Gerry Georgatos and economist Suresh Rajan - from the state of Western Australia. Julian Assange, who is currently staying at the Embassy of Ecuador in London, where he has been evading extradition for more than a year, took part in the meeting via Skype. The Electoral Commission of Australia registered the WikiLeaks party’s application for the participation in the parliamentary elections on July 2.
