Hanoi - Xinhua

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Monday met with visiting Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar armed forces Min Aung Hlaing. The Vietnamese prime minister highly evaluated the results of the talks and the signing of the memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation between the two countries, saying the visit would make a practical contribution to boosting Vietnam-Myanmar relations. Vietnam attaches importance to developing relations with Myanmar for the two countries' prosperity and for development of the ASEAN community, Dung said. Dung stressed that Vietnam is glad to see the achievements of Myanmar, especially the success of the election and the establishment of the new government. The two sides should further expand cooperation in economy, trade and investment, as well as support each other at multilateral forums, he said. Vietnam hoped Myanmar would support Vietnamese army enterprises to invest in Myanmar, especially in telecom, banking and agricultural production, Dung added. Myanmar Commander-in-Chief thanked the host for his warm welcome, saying his Vietnam visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two armies and peoples, particularly discussing concrete measures for cooperation between Myanmar and Vietnamese armed forces. The new Myanmar government will always open the door for foreign investment from Vietnam, the country that Myanmar trusts, for common development, Hlaing said. Myanmar sincerely thanked Vietnam for their support and assistance at regional and international forums, and hoped the two sides would continue promoting cooperation for economic development, he added. General Min Aung Hlaing, leading Myanmar's high-ranking military delegation, is visiting Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese Minister of Defense, General Phung Quang Thanh.
