Kabul - RT

The US Embassy staff was in lockdown mode in Kabul on Wednesday as protests continue over the burning of copies of the Koran at NATO’s base in Afghanistan. “The embassy is on lockdown,” the embassy said. All travel was suspended. Police fired shots as around 1,000 protesters gathered in Kabul, Reuters reports. The clashes over the burning of Koran have been continuing for the second day in Kabul and other cities. The US military apologized on Tuesday for the burning of the books. They reportedly contained extremist messages or inscriptions and were pulled from the shelves of a detention center library.
