Washington - Fna

The anti-capitalism protesters in the US are continuing demonstrations and gatherings and the Police continue arrests and heavy handed tactics against them, but the western media have apparently gone on strike because they almost don't talk about the Occupy Wall Street movement anymore. In an article in Business Insider, David Seaman says, "I am shaking with anger as I see the carnage roll in on my Twitter feed minute by minute. (Twitter is not my preferred method of news gathering, but given the mainstream media's total failure to cover the various Occupy Wall Street-associated protests that occurred around the nation today, I'm given no choice.)" "My colleague, a credentialed cameraman, was punched in the kidney three times." "was roughed up by 2 cops, one of them hit me hard on my breasts while shoving me. went down & almost got crushed." "Watching cops drive mopeds into ppl! right in front of me." Just a few of the personal horrors those of us on Twitter have beared witness to over the past hour. "And our disgraceful, shameful, utterly disgusting mainstream media is not covering any of it. The first thing you learn in intro to journalism classes is who, what, where, when, why." "The media isn't even bothering to cover the first w. And certainly not the why. "Free press? Yeah, right," he says. "Now, don't get me wrong: I am not an Occupier. I'm an entrepreneur, I'm all about making money and sustainable capitalism, as my record shows. I find many of the Occupy movement's views to be politically naive (Eliminate corporate greed? How?) and even counterproductive to real reform. "BUT. I will defend to the last breath the constitutional right of my fellow Americans to peacefully assemble and speak out against the powers that be, and the unprecedented concentration of wealth in the United States." "These are out of work moms and dads. These are college students saddled with $150,000 student loan debts and a dim future. These are idealistic people who want to improve the nation's standing in the world, and its economic security." "Their right to assemble and speak out is CLEARLY, UNEQUIVOCALLY protected by the First Amendment. I don't see how police departments can casually trample over their rights, their dreams, and even their bodies." "To be a law enforcement officer and not respect the Bill of Rights is like being a Christian who doesn't believe in the Ten Commandments." "Over the coming weeks and months, a lot of politicians will need to tender their resignations in Washington. A lot of police department chiefs will need to find new lines of work, and a lot of police officers who have abused their power and harmed their fellow citizens will need to answer for what they have done, and for what they continue to do even as I write this post," he concludes.
