A 19-year-old man arrested over the weekend for trying to kill Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Las Vegas is a British citizen, US authorities said Monday.
Natalie Collins, a spokeswoman for the US Attorney's Office in Las Vegas, told AFP that Michael Sandford was ordered held without bond following his arrest on Saturday at the Trump rally.
He had tried to grab a police officer's gun in an apparent bid to kill the presumptive Republican presidential nominee before being overpowered.
Collins said Sandford was ordered detained on Monday following an initial court appearance as he was considered dangerous and represented a flight risk.
If convicted on a charge of "act of violence on restricted grounds," he faces more than 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Asked to comment on the arrest, a spokesman at Britain's Foreign Office said: "We are providing assistance following an arrest of a British national in Las Vegas."
