A large number of the US and Israeli allies, including Germany and France, have voiced their strong opposition to aggressive moves against Iran. While a majority of the world powers have warned the US and Israel against a military action on Iran, China and Russia have also stated their strong opposition to further sanctions against the Islamic Republic as well. On Monday, Germany, France and Turkey added their voices to those objecting to a military option. The United States also does not seem thrilled at the prospect of launching another war in the region. The European and American plan to impose another dose of sanctions on Iran may be worrisome, but it likely isn't threatening as long as China, Russia and over 100 member of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and many more continue regular trade relations with Iran in defiance of the Western sanctions. The effort to impose restrictions on the export of gasoline to Iran failed as Iran reached self-sufficiency in gasoline production in a matter of months since threats of such sanctions were first posed to the country. The US and Israeli will also be unable to persuade a UN Security Council resolution to impose international sanctions on Iran, given the fact that Iran and Russia have recently signed a strategic security pact, while Russia has initiated diplomatic efforts through a phased plan to resolve the nuclear standoff between Tehran and the West. Iran's deputy foreign minister visited Moscow last week to discuss cooperation against the US and Israel with his Russian counterpart, and on Sunday the Russian deputy foreign minister for Middle Eastern affairs, Mikhail Bogdanov, went to Tehran to discuss stronger ties with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi. Meantime, any aggressive move against Iran will send oil prices soaring somewhere between 200 to 400 US dollars per barrel, analysts warned earlier this week. Thus, it seems the US and its proxy, Israel, are left with no choice in the confrontation against Iran.
