The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon conducted patrols along the Blue Line at the Wazzani-Ghajar area on Thursday after an Israeli army unit crossed the electronic fence and advanced towards the banks of the Wazzani River. UNIFIL’s Spanish contingent intensified its patrols in the area and monitored the movement of Israeli troops on the other side of the border, the state-run National News Agency reported. An Israeli force comprising 10 troops advanced towards the banks of the river on Wednesday night. “Some troops took up combat positions, pointing their machineguns towards the Lebanese territory,” NNA said. The Blue Line is the U.N.-drawn border between the two countries established following the Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000. Both Lebanon and Israel have challenged its accuracy in several locations. Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes on Thursday overflew Bint Jbeil and the western and central sectors at medium altitude and flew over Jezzine and Iqlim al-Tuffah at high altitude.
