All 193 UN member states have agreed on the text of a document laying out a global framework on refugees and migrants to be passed at an upcoming UN summit in September, the UN special advisor for the summit Karen AbuZayd said Tuesday.
The document, which is not legally binding, includes commitments to better assist and manage the flow of migrants and refugees, said AbuZayd, which will be the first high-level meeting focusing on the topic.
"It addresses the challenges we face now and prepares us for the challenges of the future - refugees, migrants, those who assist them and their host communities and countries will all benefit if the commitments in this document are met," AbuZayd said.
She called on all member states to honour the commitments made in the document, which include the protection of human rights and solving root causes.
The summit will be held on September 19, one day before the opening of the high-level session of the UN General Assembly.
