
UN Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed announced a temporary suspension of the Yemeni peace talks, currently being held in Kuwait, to attend a closed-door session of the UN Security Council on Wednesday.
The UN envoy said in a press statement that he will participate in a closed-door session of the UN Security Council today to brief its members on the progress of the peace consultations and his vision for the next phase in Yemen.
The statement, carried by (KUNA) news agency on Tuesday, the Yemeni Envoy said that they are getting closer to reach a common vision among the two parties for the next stage and they working to overcome the existing obstacles and addressed all the practical details of the implementation mechanism.
Ould Cheikh added that he held successive meetings within the peace consultations, including two meetings with the government delegation. He also briefed the ambassadors of the 18 countries on the latest developments in the Yemeni file.
He said that one of the meetings, which was attended by military experts, discussed some military and security issues.
