UN Envoy Announces Delay of Inter-Yemen Talks

Due to developments over the last few hours, the start of the Yemeni-Yemeni peace negotiations scheduled to begin today in Kuwait will be delayed, UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said. 
"We are working to overcome the latest challenges and ask the delegations to show good faith, participate in the talks in order to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis in Yemen," he said in a statement carried by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) today. 
"The next few hours are crucial. We call on the parties to take their responsibility seriously and agree on comprehensive solutions," he said. 
UN Envoy noted that the negotiations are expected to be based on a framework that paves the way to a peaceful and orderly process based on the GCC initiative and the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference. 
He thanked the delegation of the Yemeni government for its commitment and arrival on time, hoping that representatives of Houthi group and deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh's forces would not miss this opportunity that could save Yemen the loss of more lives and put an end to the circle of violence that has engulfed the country. 
He also expressed his gratitude to the government of Kuwait for its willingness to host the talks and the professionalism demonstrated in the preparations.
