UN chief disapproves military action against Syria

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his disapproval of taking a military action against Syria and warned that there might be a dire consequences, especially on the humanitarian front, if such action took place. This remark was made during a closed-door meeting at the G-20 summit outside St. Petersburg saying the situation in Syria "has no military solution, " stressing the need for a political solution instead, Russian non-governmental news agency Interfax reported Friday. Ban noted that many innocent people are getting killed daily in Syria, hence, providing more weapons is not a solution but adds more to the problem. The UN chief pointed out that he will look into the investigation results made by the UN team experts on the use of chemical weapons with the UN Security Council. He expressed his appreciation to the cooperation of the Syrian authorities with the international experts. Ban called on holding a conference on Syria and warned against having a humanitarian crisis. He also urged to allocate USD 4.4 billion in form of aid to the Syrian people. Furthermore, Spokesperson of Russian President said that the G-20 summit was divided between those who were pro-an immediate action against the Syrian regime and those who were adamant about abiding by international laws and regulations to peacefully solve the prolonged crisis.
