The UK’s world-renowned Red Arrows, officially known as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, are to perform a dynamic display over Abu Dhabi Corniche at 16:00 on Thursday 24th November.
The display lasts for about 24 minutes and includes exciting moves such as the "heart and spear" and "corkscrew". The jets can move to within six feet of each other during the display and the pilots can experience up to 8G.
For this year's event, the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, ADTCA, have organised the F1 Fanzone on Lagoon Beach, the venue for Yasalam Beats on the Beach, as an ideal viewing area, and some of the Red Arrow pilots will be available to answer questions at the Abu Dhabi Science Festival at Umm Al Emarat Park from 18.00 to 20.00 on Friday, and at various sites around Yas Marina Circuit and the F1 Village on Saturday and Sunday.
The Red Arrows team, which includes nine display pilots and more than 100 support personnel and technicians, are in the UAE as part of their biggest overseas tour in a decade, which has seen visits to 17 countries, and follows hot on the heels of the visit earlier this month of The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. The presence of the Red Arrows will be another opportunity to celebrate the close ties between the UK and UAE, especially as it comes in the run up to the UAE/UK Year of Culture 2017.
Squadron Leader David Montenegro, Team Leader of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team and known as Red 1, said, "The Corniche, which is already hosting a myriad of Yasalam activities, will provide a wonderful, beautiful location to stage a Red Arrows display in Abu Dhabi and the whole team is excited to have the opportunity to perform again in the UAE, where we are always have a great response. The event in Abu Dhabi is a tangible demonstration of the enduring, positive links between the UAE and the UK.
"The timing of the Abu Dhabi display is also a perfect prelude to a weekend of motorsport and a celebration of engineering excellence, speed and teamwork – qualities shared between aviation and Grand Prix racing."
The Red Arrows will also display in Kuwait as the final stop of the visit before returning to RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire, UK, where they are based.
