
Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Wednesday that the necessary action was taken within the scope of rules of engagement, regarding the downing of a Syrian military helicopter. Gul made a statement over the incident took place on Monday, before Uganda's Ambassador to Ankara Johnson Olwa Agara submitted his letter of credence at the Presidential Palace. Concerning the downed Syrian helicopter, Gul said that this was a case of emergency, adding, "The necessary action was taken within the scope of rules ( of engagement) because of the border violation. Opposite side has also confessed the border violation." Gul reminded that Turkey had previously announced that the rules of engagement would become a part of an activity due to Turkey's threat perception and security consideration.
