London - Arab Today

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu held talks in London with Ahmet Uzumcu, Director of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), on Friday regarding latest chemical attack in Syria. "The international community and all related countries have been facing a vital test in these days as we have witnessed a dreadful human tragedy," Davutoglu said in a press meeting prior to holding talks with Uzumcu. Uzumcu said, "l am concerned with the latest development and the claims about the latest chemical weapon attack." "l have supported the call by the UN Security General to investigate the claims and reveal the truth," said Uzumcu. "We have been expecting from authorities in Damascus to pave the way for it," Uzumcu added.   Davutoglu will go to Rome on Friday after completing scheduled talks in London. Davutoglu had said that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has stated the alleged chemical weapons attack near the Syrian capital "needs to be investigated without delay." At least 1,300 people were killed in a chemical weapons attack staged by the Syrian regime in the suburbs of the Ghouta region near Damascus in the early hours of Wednesday, allegations which the Syrian government strongly denies. During his tour in Europe, Davutoglu also met with his British counterpart William Hague in London and held a telephone conversation with Malaysian FM Aman. According to diplomatic sources, latest developments in Syria and Egypt were discussed between the two ministers. The ministers also discussed the chemical weapon attack which was staged in Syria on Wednesday. On the other hand, Davutoglu and Aman held consultations about OIC's role on Egypt.   Malaysia had lately called on OIC to hold conference on Egypt crisis urgently.
