
Turkish officials arrested the commander of the Incirlik Air Base, which the U.S. uses to carry out airstrikes against Daesh terrorist group in Syria, for complicity in Friday’s coup attempt, U.S. and Turkish officials said Sunday, according to the Wall Street Journal.
A senior Turkish official said Gen. Bekir Ercan Van, the base commander, as well as 11 other service members from the base and a police officer, were placed under arrest.
Turkey's justice minister says some 6,000 people have been detained in a government crackdown on alleged coup plotters and government opponents.
