Tunisian interior ministry urges for calm

Tunisia's interior ministry on Saturday urged for calm, calling on people to shun violence and " ensure that the country's higher interests prevail," official TAP press agency reported. In a statement released on Saturday, Tunisia's interior ministry invites different parties to avoid confrontations "likely to cause destruction and casualties." The call comes following clashes between pro- and anti- Ennahdha followers in front of the Constitutional Assembly on Saturday, hours after the burial of a prominent secular opposition figure who was gunned down before his home on Thursday. Police forces cordoned off all the roads leading to the Assembly and made "excessive use" of tear gas to disperse both groups of demonstrators, TAP said.
