Kuwait City - Arab Today

The decision of US President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel two days ago drew angry protests in several cities across the world on Friday.

In Jordan thousands of people took to streets in dozens of cities for the second day running to protest against the clear US bias towards Israel and blatant violation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

A mass demonstration in midtown Amman gathered Parliament Speaker Atef Al-Tarawneh and MPs in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The protesters paid tribute to the valiant struggle of the Palestinians for their legitimate right to the cities and the other occupied territories.

They urged the Arab League and the UN member states to apply pressures on the US Administration to back down on its illegal and unfair decision, affirming that the future of the holy city can be decided only by the final status talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

Other demonstrations were staged near the US embassy in the capital city, main cities and Palestinian refugee camps in the Kingdom of Jordan.

In Brussels, hundreds of people braved severe cold to gather outside the US embassy this evening to protest at Trump's decision.

"Long live Palestine," "Allah-o-Akbar" chanted the protestors who included women and children waving Palestinian flags. They shouted slogans condemning the US decision.

The demonstration was organized by the Palestinian community of Belgium.

A strong police presence kept the demonstrators away from the US embassy.

In Baghdad, the Federation of Arab Journalists (FAJ) strongly denounced the US move as "irresponsible and reckless," and called for retaliatory measures.

A statement, released following an emergency meeting the Federation today, called its member associations in the Arab countries to organize sit-in protests on Wednesday.

It called for banning any media contacts with Israeli press people.

The statement accused Washington of involvement in the crimes being committed by the Israeli occupation authorities against the Palestinian people.

Washington probed to be a main culprit in the Israeli aggression on the Muslim and Christian sanctities in the holy city through its violation of the international laws and UN resolutions, according to the statement.

The FAJ strongly condemned the Israeli occupation forces for cracking down on Palestinian demonstrations and press people covering the protests.

It called on the UN to provide protection to the Palestinian people, noting that it mulls the legal measures that could be adopted against the US administration
