Syrian opposition leaders Sunday urged the Arab League to send observers to Homs and areas where the government was waging a bloody crackdown on protesters. "Since early this morning the Homs neighborhood of Baba Amr has been under tight siege and the threat of military invasion by an estimated 4000 soldiers," said a statement issued by the opposition Syrian National Council and reported by Sky News Australia. "The Syrian National Council demands that te Arab League observers go to Homs immediately, specifically to the besieged neighborhoods, to fulfill their stated mission," the SNC statement said. "In addition, we demand that the observers go to all the hot spots in Syria, or withdraw and conclude their mission if it is not possible for them to do so." The council said it holds the Arab League and international community responsible for the bloody crackdown conducted by the Syrian regime against anti-government protesters. A team of Arab League monitors arrived in Damascus Thursday. On Friday, a double suicide bomb attack at two buildings in a Damascus intelligence compound killed 44 people.
