Syrian state media commentator Mohammad Darrar Jamo was assassinated early Wednesday at his residence in the South Lebanon region of Sarafand, according to official NNA news provider here. The news agency said unknown gunmen opened fire on Jamo upon his return to his home in Sarafand at dawn, killing him on the spot and injuring his daughter and two of his companions. The body and the injured were all taken to Alaeddeen Hospital in Sarafand. Jamo was frequently hosted by many satellite stations as a political analyst, and was a strong supporter of the Assad regime. This is the first time for a Syrian figure to be assassinated within Lebanese territory since the spark of the Syrian uprising in 2011. Jamo was head of the political and international relations in the Global Arab Expatriates Organization. Meanwhile, Syria's SANA news agency condemned the assassination and reported a strong statement by the Information Ministry. "As the Ministry of Information strongly condemns this act and holds the extremist powers responsible for the crime legally, ethically, and politically, it calls upon the Lebanese authorities to investigate into this crime to unmask the identity of its perpetrators, tools and references," the statement said, as reported by SANA.
