A suicide bomber who blew himself up at a border checkpoint in northeast Ukraine’s Sumy region wounding two border guards was a resident of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic, Russia’s North Caucasus, the press service of the Sumy region prosecutor’s office said on Friday. A car with four Moldovan citizens inside came to Ukraine from Russia. During an inspection border guards found another man hiding in the car. A thirty-one-year-old Russian citizen from Chegem, a town in the Kabardino-Balkar Republic, blew himself up at a passport control area using a makeshift explosive device with a small calibre shell. Two border guards, 32 and 43, were hospitalized in a grave condition. Security services are checking the man’s involvement in terrorist activities. Ukraine’s TSN Channel reports that Moldovan citizens said they stopped the car to take him as a companion and knew nothing about him.
