Moscow highly appreciates the role of the Libyan National Army (LNA) in upholding Libya’s independence and territorial integrity, TASS News Agency quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as saying on Tuesday at opening talks with LNA Commander Khalifa Haftar.

"We appreciate your role in protecting the country’s independence and territorial integrity," the minister said. "We can see how deeply you understand the interconnection between the struggle for sovereignty and the need to suppress terrorists."

"We are committed to searching for ways of national reconciliation in Libya in accordance with the decisions made by the UN Security Council," Lavrov stressed. "Today it will be useful for us to learn your assessment of the developments."

For his part, Haftar spoke highly of Russia’s support in resolving the situation in Libya. "Our relations are pivotal, our aim today is to breathe new life into these relations," he noted.

"Yesterday we had the honor of being received at the Russian Defense Ministry," the LNA commander said. "We discussed quite a few military issues outlining all requirements for combating terrorism."

"We hope that we will be able to eliminate terrorism with your support very soon," Haftar added.
