
A group of Russian deputies are prepared to visit Syria to meet their counterparts to discuss recent developments in the country, Russian Parliament Speaker Sergey Naryshkin said on Tuesday. Naryshkin said in the parliament that it is not closed yet to find a diplomatic solution to 30 month old crisis and stated the bitter lesson that one had from the developments in the last century is that “international norms and institutions should not be disregarded.” He noted a group of deputies are ready to travel to Damascus to debate the current and recent developments in the Middle Eastern country but did not disclose timing of the possible visit. Russia, a staunch supporter of the Bashar Al Assad regime, prevented the US punitive military action against Syria over its use of chemical weapons on civilians by a proposal in which the Syrian chemical stockpile would be placed under international control.
