Russia seeks stronger military-technical cooperation with Malaysia

Russia seeks stronger military-technical cooperation with Malaysia, especially in military hardware maintenance and training of highly skilled personnel, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after talks with his Malaysian counterpart Anifah Aman on Thursday. “We are interested in maintaining (military-technical) cooperation not only as concerns military exports, but also maintenance of military hardware and personnel training,” he said. Lavrov recalled that a Su-30 fighter maintenance centre was opened in Malaysia in 2012 and a pilot training centre - in 2011. “Issues related to further development of our military-technical cooperation had been discussed at a recent meeting of the intergovernmental commission on defence cooperation,” Lavrov said. “Concrete agreements had been reached and I am confident they will contribute to the strengthening of Malaysia’s defence capacity and our cooperation in this sphere.”
