Russia finds it impermissible to abet to blasphemous attempts of the Estonian state authorities to honour the Waffen SS executors, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated on Monday over a meeting of the former Waffen SS legionaries in Estonia on July 27. “On July 27, a meeting of the former legionaries of the 20th Estonian Waffen SS division and their accomplices was held in Sinimae with the permission of the local authorities and despite protests of international and Estonian public,” Deputy Director of Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said on Monday. She named impermissible “blasphemous attempts of the Estonian state authorities to honour the Waffen SS executors, which, according to the verdict of the Nuremberg International Military Tribunal, are responsible for many murders and atrocities on the occupied territories.” “A blatant abetting of the Estonian state authorities to this event cannot but make us indignant, as well as the lack of a proper assessment from the European Union, a member of which Estonia is, such insulting for all reasonable Europeans actions, which encroach rudely on the international law and relevant international commitments of that country,” Zakharova underlined.
