Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Sunday his country spares no effort to restore peace and stability to Syria, and fully supports the mediation of the UN-Arab League Special Representative for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi. "It is promising that other countries reached the conclusion that there would be no military solution to the Syrian crisis," he said during his meeting with Brahimi who is here to prepare for the Geneva II Conference on Syria. "Only the political means could lead to a settlement and put an end to the ongoing violence," he said, voicing hope for the success of Brahimi's mission. Tehran is ready to play a positive role in any effort aiming to stabilize Syria, including the Geneva II Conference, and is ready to host any meeting on the issue with the participation of Syria's neighbors notably Turkey, the Iranian president affirmed. On his part, Brahimi said his current shuttle tour of the regional countries aims to ensure success of the Geneva II Conference which aims to prepare the ground for direct talks between the conflicting parties in Syria. He highlighted the importance of Iran's participating in the conference, voicing hope that Tehran would continue cooperation with the international community to find a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis, which killed more than 100,000 people and displaced millions others. Brahimi arrived in Tehran yesterday as part of a tour of the Middle East region.
