Beirut - Arab Today

The League of Media Academicians in Lebanon on Friday organized in cooperation with the Lebanese American University (LAU), the first academic conference, under the sponsorship of Information Minister, Melhem Riachy.

General Elie Estephan, representing Minister of Defense Yaacoub al-Sarraf, Ministry of Information Director General, Hassan Falha, National News Agency Director, Laure Sleiman, Information Minister's advisor, Andre Kassas, and LAU President, Joseph Jabra, were present at the conference.

Minister Riachy delivered a word in which he said that the League of Media Academicians was an idea and has become a reality, highlighting the paramount importance of this league's responsibility.

"The Ministry of Information will be launched under a new structure that remains under study at the research center of the Civil Service Board; it will become a ministry of communications and dialogue. The Ministry's new employees will only be media graduates," Riachy said.

The Minister went on to say that the Ministry of Information was an essential partner of the League of Media Academicians. He then shed light on the "most important project" which is the new union of editors, saying that this project is now on the tables of the Lebanese Presidency and the government, to be later referred to the House of Parliament.

The Minister of Information also addressed the US decision on Jerusalem, showing solidarity with Jerusalem and emphasizing the importance of this city.

He finally paid tribute to the Palestinian people and their will to resist.

For his part, Ministry of Information Director, Hassan Falha, lauded the fact that the conference was able to gather academicians and technicians, "in a first scientific meeting which could lay the foundations for the future, and which would be up to the media performance level in Lebanon today
