Beijing - Xinhua

Libyans living abroad have responded to rebels' advancement into Tripoli by converging on their embassies to fly the rebel flag. They have also defaced symbols of the Muammar Gaddafi government. Libyans living in Sudan stormed the embassy in the capital, Khartoum, and appointed a new ambassador. Mawlood Ali Musa, temporary Libyan Ambassador Sudan, said, "In these critical moments in which I was assigned by you to take the helm at the embassy; I thank you very much for this confidence and hope that Libyans enjoy freedom under a new democratic government representing all Libyans." In Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the rebel flag flew at the Libyan embassy, as police cleared up trashed items including photographs and other emblems of the Gaddafi government. Two Libyan men could be seen tearing up Gaddafi photographs and copies of his writing contained in his "Green Book" at the Libyan embassy in the Greek capital, Athens. Nizar Sanussi, Libyan immigrant, said, "Believe me when I say that Libya will develop into a great, beautiful country now. It won't be anything like the past 42 years when people only knew Gaddafi, but no one knew Libya. Now when they say, Libya, everyone will know about it." Saad Abu Salad, Libyan immigrant, said, "We are waiting a long period to have this moment. Really this is unbelievable moment. We are feeling that we are getting our freedom and our independence right now." Elsewhere on Monday, the rebel flag flew at other European and Middle Eastern Libyan embassies, including Malta, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Syria.
