Manama - Arabstoday

Qatar imams or prayer leaders are undergoing training on human rights to boost their knowledge about the topic. "The four-day courses, organised by the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and the endowment and Islamic affairs ministry, deal with human rights terms, introduction to the International Human Law, the international Human Rights Declaration," said Mohammad Abdullah Al Maadid, head of NHRC programmes and education, as quoted by Qatari daily The Peninsula. According to the activist, 33 imams have already been given insights into international conventions on legal, civil, political, cultural and socio-economic human rights. Other important topics included international conventions related to human rights, the national mechanism of the protection of human rights, the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women and workforce rights.
