President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government to consider the development of suburban routes in the Moscow Region a priority project. “We should make the price in suburban trains stable and predictable. So, I ask the government to consider the development of suburban routes in the Moscow Region a priority project within the nearest 5-6 years,” Putin said at a meeting devoted to the development of the transport infrastructure in Moscow and the Moscow region. “The project will be one of the major ones in the world that is why it is necessary to build main and additional suburban routes,” the president said. Now Moscow, the Moscow Region and Russian Railways study this issue thoroughly. “This will allow us to increase the flow of passengers up to 900 million people (almost one billion),” Putin said. During the meeting on transport development in Moscow and Moscow Region the president also called for eradicating any speculations and corruption when taking up lots of land to build the Central Ring Road. Putin said it was necessary to minimize price risks. “By 2018 the Central Ring Road should become a modern, comfortable and transit highway and an important section of inter-regional communication and international transit corridors,” the Russian president said. Russia’s President also spoke about the future Central Ring Road. He urged to thoroughly calculate the amount for the fare on the Central Ring Road. “This should be an amount, which will be accessible for citizens and for officials,” he noted. The President said the Central Ring Road should be divided into sections in order to speed up engineering of land acquisition. Putin said it was easier to attract investors to work on certain sections than on the project as a whole. In order to make the construction successful for investors and the budget “we need a schedule for opening certain sections”, the president said.
