Mohamed Morsi, head of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said the Muslim Brotherhood's political wing will announce which candidate the party will support only after the registration period for the presidential elections closes. FJP's media consultant, Ahmed Subei, had earlier stated that the Islamist party would announce their candidate by Tuesday, after a two-day deliberation. However, according to Morsi the decision will not be made before 18 April. The registration period for presidential hopefuls starts on 10 March and ends on 18 April. The anticipated elections are to be underway late in May. Two months ago, the FJP amassed the lion's share of seats of the parliament's lower house, the People's Assembly. It is widely believed, consequently, that the candidate who would be backed by the Brotherhood's FJP would undisputedly assume power. From Al-Ahram
