Pope Francis has named a new saint, as well as advanced seven other causes for sainthood, officials said Friday. The pope canonized Blessed Angela da Foligno, who lived from 1248 to 1309, Vatican Radio reported. The non-ordained clergy-member of the Secular Franciscan Order was added to the "catalog of saints" after Francis reviewed a report from Cardinal Angelo Amato, the prefect of the congregation, Oct. 9, a statement by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints said Friday. The pope also issued a decree recognizing the heroic virtues of Bishop Pio Alberto Del Corona, who lived from 1837 to 1912; Attilio Luciano Giordani (1913-72), Sister Maria Eleonora Giorgi (1882-1945), Amato Ronconi (1226-92), Sister Marie Elisabeth Turgeon (1840-81) and Sister Maria Jane Wilson (1840-1916), the statement said.
