Indian police have arrested a man for allegedly stalking and molesting a German woman student in the Indian capital a couple of days ago, a senior police official said Saturday. "The stalker, identified as Manish Kumar, was nabbed Friday evening. We were able to arrest him on the basis of close circuit television footage obtained from a metro station near Nizamuddin in the central part of the Indian capital," he said. Kumar allegedly stalked and then molested the 19-year-old German student who is working with a non-government organization in the national capital, while she was returning home from work along with one of her friends. He fled the spot after the girls raised an alarm, and they subsequently filed a police complaint. Sexual assaults on women are common in the Indian capital. Last year, the fatal and brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old medical student by six men on a moving bus had shocked the country, and the government was compelled to bring in harsher punishment for offenders.
