Pirate Party organises protest in St Petersburg

Supporters of the regulations-free Internet and of free distribution of information organised on Sunday a public rally against the so-called Anti-Pirate Law, which protects interests of content producers. The rally featured about 40 supporters of the unregistered party and several political organisations, who are against the law, which comes into the legal force on August 1. The event’s participants had posters which read: “Our Response - No Censorship,” “Internet Should Be Free,” “Nothing To Lose, But Net.” The activists said the law, which protects rights of content producers, like several other initiatives, for example, a possible ban of obscene language in social networks, may be another step to censorship, though would rather not be effective against propaganda of drugs or distribution of child pornography on the net. The rally was over an hour after it began - at 14:00 Moscow time.
