Iranian naval forces foiled a pirate attack on an oil tanker Saturday near the Gulf of Aden, officials say. Six Somali pirate speedboats attacked the oil tanker 35 miles north of the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. A swift retaliation by naval forces caused pirates to flee the scene, Iran's Fars News Agency reported. Since November 2008, the Iranian navy has conducted patrols in the Gulf of Aden on the lookout for pirates, after the cargo ship MV Delight was hijacked off the coast of Yemen.
