The Pentagon
Washington - Arab Today

The Pentagon is about to restructure the way it fights Daesh and other terror threats, deepening its reliance on the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), whose forces have carried out some of the most prominent U.S. military missions in recent years, defense officials said as quoted by Wall Street Journal.

The move is designed to modernize the U.S. fighting effort and to better coordinate limited resources, including drones, intelligence and troops.

The SOCOM, headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, was responsible for killing al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in 2011.

The new security plan will not give SOCOM extra powers but a new role in terms of military operations coordination. It still awaits the approval of US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter.
