Park: any meeting, agreement with North Korea would be 'fleeting'

South Korean President Park Geun-hye on Monday said without any change in North Korea's attitude over its nuclear weapons program, any meeting or agreement with the communist state would only be "fleeting", Yonhap news agency reported.

During a luncheon meeting with the leading members of a conservative civic group, Park also reaffirmed her resolve to end the "vicious cycle" of North Korean provocations followed by rewards and continue efforts to lay the groundwork for reunification.

"What history clearly tells us is the fact that without any fundamental change in North Korea's perception and attitude, any meeting or pact (with the North) would only be a fleeting event," she said during the luncheon with some 260 members of the Korea Freedom Federation at her office Cheong Wa Dae.

Her remarks were the latest in a recent series of hard-line statements against Pyongyang, which has continued to stick to its saber-rattling tactics, including last month's launches of two intermediate-range ballistic missiles.

Noting that this year marks the 44th anniversary of the July 4 inter-Korean declaration over unification, Park said it was regrettable that the commitments under the declaration have not been fulfilled.
