
Pakistan is building IT parks in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
Korea Eximbank team has been asked by the Minister of State for IT Anusha Rahman to complete the feasibility study this week so that the project could enter into an implementation phase at the earliest. The 13 members’ Korean team was led by Dr Yim Deok Soon and Prof. Park Hung Kook.
The Minister of IT told the Korean delegation at her office that IT park will provide a whole ecosystem including affordable space to IT companies along with power, bandwidth, and linkages between industry and academia. IT park in Islamabad will be followed by two more parks at Lahore and Karachi subsequently.
The Minister urged all stakeholders to collectively work to positively achieve the milestones.
The visiting team shared in detail the salient features, models and proposed designs along with other technical aspects for the building of first IT park in Pakistan.
Earlier, addressing a workshop, the Minister said that the government is committed to making local IT & telecom as the fastest growing sector in the region.
She mentioned that according to State Bank of Pakistan, IT remittances have grown by 41% since last year and IT exports are 10% of Pakistan’s total services exports at present and the aim is to take IT exports from $2.2 billion at present to more than $5 billion by 2017.
