Islamabad - XINHUA

Pakistan military says that Indian firing on Saturday injured a Pakistani civilian along the Line of Control, which divides the two countries in the disputed Kashmir region. The incident took place after weeks of a lull in firing on the LoC in the disputed Kashmir region. Senior military officers of the two countries had met in December and agreed to implement the 2003 ceasefire. "Indian troops from Jammu post fired upon on a civilian named Zafar Mehmood who had inadvertently crossed the LoC 200 meters deep for cutting firewood today at 2:30 p.m.," military sources said. "The individual sustained a bullet injury in his right arm and is being treated at forward army medical center," they said. The sources said that the injured man is in stable condition. Pakistan and India routinely accuse each other of launching deadly attacks on the other side and violating the 2003 ceasefire along the LoC. Guns had been relatively silent along the LoC since the ceasefire, however, the escalations along the LoC in recent months had caused tensions between the uneasy nuclear neighbors. Prime ministers of the two countries met in New York in September and had decided to ask their military officials to meet and discuss implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
