
Over 30 warships and other watercrafts, 20 airplanes and helicopters, and around three thousand military and civil professionals will participate in exercises of Maritime territory and Kamchatka’s divisions, which began on Friday, the Pacific Fleet’s spokesperson Roman Martov said. “The main objective of these exercises is to evaluate the fleet’s capacity to secure and protect Russia’s national interests in the Far East,” he said. “The drills will have two stages over fifteen and will be spread acrossthe Sea of Japan /Gulf of Peter the Great, the Tatar Strait / Gulf and Avacha Bay.” The active phase will include up to ten minor exercises. Apart from the forces of the Pacific Fleet, exercises will feature forces of the Interior Ministry, EMERCOM, Ministry of Transport, FSB and other govermental bodies. The fleet will work together in order to respond to terrorist acts and man-made disasters at governmetal facilities located at the Sea of Japan and the Avacha Bay, and to provide naval security and assist vessels in distress.
