Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich must step down in case the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union is not signed at a summit in Vilnius, Vitaly Klitchko, a member of the parliament and the leader of the opposition party UDAR, said on Saturday. “This agreement gives us an opportunity to overcome the economic crisis Ukraine has been in for years,” he said. “It it depends on us only whether this opportunity could be used. I don’t even want to think about the worst scenario when this agreement is not signed. If it happens this way, the responsibility for its failure will rest with the current authorities. In the event this agreement is not signed, Ukrainian President [Viktor] Yanukovich must resign.” On Friday, opposition activists asked the president to promise he would resign in case the association agreement was not signed. The president answered equivocally: “We all ate responsible for that. Life will go on. It will not stop. Any decisions are taken by both sides. Ukraine has had its say. Now we are waiting for a reply from the European Union.”
